salters nuffield a-level biology
I know it’s not popular but I’m not in again. The hospital said I could only teach if I did it sat down, and I need to be on my toes with you lot…
So your next task is something I was actually really looking forward to teaching which makes me sad. So if you struggle today don’t worry because I will be helping you through this next week.
Handy Illustrated Guide To Protein Structure.
Read through this guide, answer the questions as they pop up. Page 58 onwards in your textbook will help you. You have to create and email me a slideshare about protein folding. I’m not getting many emails through at the moment, so if you could all send me one so I have your email address I’d be very grateful.
If you have any problems, I’ll be online at the same time I would be teaching so email me. Any major issues and I’ll direct you towards a meebo chat applet where I can help you more.
Have fun Biologists!

Sadly I won’t be able to join you today after taking a bit of a tumble and knocking my ankle. Standing isn’t my strong point at the moment. I hope to be back tomorrow though, so no slacking.
In my absence I have a couple of little tasks for you to do. I can’t tell if you are in or not so your register marks rely on me getting something in from you.
Task one
Get a blank piece of paper and look up the fluid mosaic model. This model describes the structure of the plasma membrane that surrounds cells. I want you to draw and label the fluid mosaic model. Fill a piece of A4, be as colourful as you like, stick your name on the back and submit to Kamila in the office.
Task two
Diseases relating to mutations in the plasma membrane. I want you to research at least two diseases that are caused by a malfunction in the plasma membrane. Tell me what the change/mutation is, how this affects normal function and the symptoms this causes.
If you do this by hand, hand it in with your drawing otherwise email me at Teresa.Greer@Haringey6.ac.uk.
Also… don’t forget to submit your homework today! Thank you!
See you tomorrow…. I hope
ps. email me if you get stuck
